Bobby DiCello Speaks to Media About Canton Police Attack of Jaemiir McElroy

Aug 27, 2024

DiCello Levitt partner Bobby DiCello was recently interviewed by NBC News, as well as local Cleveland news station Fox 8, to discuss the vicious attack by a Canton, Ohio, police officer that left Bobby’s client, 21-year-old Jaemiir McElroy, hospitalized.

A bystander video of the incident shows police surrounding McElroy while he is kneeling on the ground with his hands raised when one officer suddenly runs at McElroy and delivers a powerful kick to his chest.

“As you see in the video, Jaemiir is on his knees with his hands up, his brother is to his right on his stomach, they have all complied with all of the commands to get down, get down, get down,” Bobby told Fox 8. “There is nothing in the video to justify this sentence: ‘He deserved it.’ There’s nothing.”

In addition to representing McElroy, Bobby currently represents victims in five other cases of alleged police violence involving Canton officers, all occurring within just the past two years.

“There’s a group of people in Canton that are law enforcement officers who are treating ordinary civilians like enemy combatants,” Bobby said to NBC News. “If this was in another context, you’d say that’s a crime spree.”
