Family of Cameron Ford Issues Statement Following Omaha Settlement

Oct 06, 2026

On October 6, 2026, the Omaha City Council approved a $420,000 settlement with the family of Cameron Ford, who was shot and killed by an Omaha police officer during the execution of a no-knock warrant on August 28, 2024.

Cameron, 37, was unarmed when he was shot. Following an internal investigation, Omaha Police Chief Todd Schmaderer determined that the officer involved had violated department policies, procedures, and training and recommended his termination. The officer was later terminated. Cameron’s death also prompted renewed scrutiny of Omaha’s use of no-knock warrants.

Statement from April Ford on Behalf of the Family of Cameron Ford

“Nothing can bring Cameron back, and no settlement can make our family whole again. We continue to live with the pain of losing him and with the knowledge that his death should never have happened.

We hope this settlement brings a measure of accountability, but our fight does not end here. Cameron’s death exposed the very real dangers of no-knock warrants, and we will continue pushing for meaningful change so that another family does not have to experience the loss that ours has endured.”
