Peter J. Nygard, Nygard Inc., Nygard International Partnership, and Nygard Holdings Limited Class Action Lawsuit

On Thursday, February 13, 2020, a class action lawsuit was filed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District Of New York against Peter J. Nygard, Nygard Inc., Nygard International Partnerships, and Nygard Holdings Limited (“Defendants”).  The case, brought on behalf of victims of sexual abuse at the hands of Peter J. Nygard, alleges that Defendants violated the United States Federal sex trafficking statute, 18 U.S.C. §§ 1591, et seq. 

The Details

Allegations in this case arise from Peter J. Nygard’s rape and sexual assault of underaged girls and women in the United States, the Bahamas, and elsewhere around the world.  Peter J. Nygard, with the assistance of Nygard Inc., Nygard International Partnership, and Nygard Holdings Limited, used his considerable influence in the fashion industry, his power through corruption of officials, and a network of company employees under his direction to coerce and entice underage girls and women into engaging in commercial sex acts.

The lawsuit alleges that Defendants engaged in a pattern and practice of luring and coercing vulnerable underaged girls and women into commercial sex acts—in exchange for money, promises of modeling opportunities, promises of career advancement, and/or continued employment—through the use of alcohol, drugs, force, fraud, and/or other forms of coercion.  Defendants’ conduct is part of a decades long sex trafficking scheme. 

I am a victim of sexual abuse at the hands of Peter J. Nygard. Can I join the class action?

Currently, the classes in this case consist of victims of sexual abuse at the hands of Peter J. Nygard including:

• All women who met with Peter J. Nygard in person while they were under 18 years of age (i) to audition for or to discuss involvement in modeling for any of the Nygard Companies or (ii) in a meeting or event facilitated, hosted, or underwritten by the Nygard Companies.
• All women who met with Peter J. Nygard in person while they were 18 years of age or over (i) to audition for or to discuss involvement in modeling for any of the Nygard Companies or (ii) in a meeting or event facilitated, hosted, or underwritten by the Nygard Companies.
• All members of the Minor Victim Class who recruited other women: (a) to audition for or to discuss involvement in modeling for any of the Nygard Companies; or (b) to attend a meeting or event facilitated, hosted, or underwritten by the Nygard Companies.
• All members of the Adult Victim Class who recruited other women: (a) to audition for or to discuss involvement in modeling for any of the Nygard Companies; or (b) to attend a meeting or event facilitated, hosted, or underwritten by the Nygard Companies.
