Leading Trial Attorney Greg Gutzler Spearheads Launch of Firm’s New York Office

NEW YORK, February 27, 2019– National plaintiffs’ law firm, DiCello Levitt, today announced the launch of its New York office, adding respected commercial litigator Greg Gutzler to lead this key expansion. The addition of Gutzler, who brings over 20 years of trial experience in matters ranging from high-profile securities actions to antitrust and biotechnology litigation, enhances the firm’s reputation as a national plaintiffs’ powerhouse. Formed in April 2017 in Chicago and Cleveland by renowned trial attorneys Adam Levitt and Mark DiCello, the firm has also updated its formal name to DiCello Levitt Gutzler LLC.

Gutzler focuses his practice on complex commercial litigation, including: securities litigation; antitrust claims; Lanham Act litigation; patent disputes; breach of contract; and unfair competition. He litigated over a dozen high-profile securities actions for a U.S. agency against international investment banks for misrepresentations made to investors in connection with billions of dollars of residential mortgage-backed securities. Gutzler also represents victims of terrorism in innovative actions brought under the Anti-Terrorism Act.

“We have known Greg for some time, and the opportunity to bring on an attorney of his considerable reputation and caliber does not come along often,” said Adam Levitt, co-founding partner of DiCello Levitt. “Greg’s business acumen and trial prowess are off the charts, but it’s really his commitment to promoting justice and holding organizations and individuals accountable for their actions that makes him a perfect fit for DiCello Levitt. He adds firepower to our already strong commercial and securities litigation practice and his presence in New York will help us manage our growing litigation workload in the region.”

Gutzler joins DiCello Levitt from Elias Gutzler Spicer LLC, the St. Louis litigation boutique he co-founded in 2015. He was previously a partner at one of the nation’s most prestigious plaintiffs’ firms, Korein Tillery. Gutzler has also worked on the defense side of the aisle as a partner at Husch Blackwell, where he tried myriad lawsuits and served in various firm leadership roles. He is a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley and earned his J.D. from University of Michigan Law School.

DiCello Levitt is unique among national plaintiffs’ firms for offering deep experience across a wide spectrum of matters, including class action, commercial litigation, mass tort, catastrophic injury and civil rights. Representing individuals; corporate clients, including private equity firms and hedge funds; and states and municipalities, the firm’s litigators are esteemed for their rigorous focus grouping and jury analysis. With 17 attorneys across three offices, DiCello Levitt has additional capabilities in antitrust, securities, labor and employment, and intellectual property law.

DiCello Levitt attorneys currently serve in leadership roles in several of the nation’s most prominent class actions, including the massive Equifax data breach litigation, the Ford F-150 defective braking litigation, the Intel processor security defect litigation, and the Polaris off-road vehicle litigation. The firm is also involved in other high-profile national matters, including the ongoing television ad price fixing litigation against Sinclair and Tribune Company and the University Hospitals fertility clinic disaster.

Gutzler brings to DiCello Levitt a roster of prominent hedge fund and private equity clients involved in high-stakes litigation matters.  He has successfully resolved dozens of cases, through verdict or settlement, for plaintiffs across a wide swath of matters in the commercial and financial sector. In 2012, Gutzler was a key member of the trial team that secured a $1 billion jury verdict on behalf of a leading multinational biotechnology company, one of the largest in American history.

“Helping establish an East Coast presence for a relatively young firm that has already gained a reputation as a national litigation powerhouse is an incredibly exciting opportunity that I am eager to embrace,” Gutzler said. “There aren’t many firms in the country that move so seamlessly between consumer class actions, shareholder lawsuits and mass torts, and I’m thrilled to work alongside accomplished trial attorneys like Adam and Mark, as well as a team of impressive young litigators who are already becoming superstars in their own right.”
